We are thrilled to invite you to the London launch of The Sleep Thief with Ibtisam Azem. This novella explores the confusion of living among those occupying your land, paying equal attention to the inner mind and the social realities it must deal with. Uncanny and beautiful, The Sleep Thief was Azem's first novel/la in Arabic, now published in an English translation by Sinan Antoon.
Ibtisam Azem is a Palestinian writer, journalist, and social worker. Her most recent novel, The Book of Disappearance, was long listed for the International Booker Prize in 2025.
Azem will be in conversation with Preti Taneja, educator, activist, and award-winning author of Aftermath and We That Are Young.
The book will be on sale, and there will be a signing after the event.
Co-organized with And Other Stories.
The Sleep Thief is our Bookshelf pick for August and September, on its way to subscribers fresh off the press along with an artwork print by Monther Jawabreh, selected by Azem. Subscribe here!
