Alison Elliot's
 
work straddles the university, civil society and the church. Formerly a lecturer in psychology, she is currently an Honorary Fellow at New College, University of Edinburgh, where she is Associate Director of the Centre for Theology and Public Issues. In 2004 she became the first woman to be appointed Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. She has represented her church on many ecumenical and civic bodies. As the church’s spokesman on politics and social policy, she developed a particular interest in international issues. She chairs the Lay Advisory Group for the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and has taken part in working groups on health, criminal justice, asylum policy, constitutional matters and land reform.
